Sony will not attend the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next year, marking its first absence since the event began in 1967.
Neither Sony nor its affiliates plan to exhibit at CES in 2027. While Sony did not have a booth at this year's event, it presented a joint venture with Honda to showcase the Afeela electric vehicle.
A Sony spokesperson told Bloomberg the decision to skip CES 2027 reflects its current focus on "entertainment, intellectual property, and technology geared to support creators."
"We continuously and strategically evaluate our approach to events and communications based on the needs and priorities of our diverse business."
Sony's typical CES presence includes a keynote address on upcoming technology and products, often featuring PlayStation hardware updates.
As noted by Gamespot, former PlayStation president and CEO Jim Ryan revealed the PlayStation 5 logo at CES in 2020. In 2022, Sony announced the PlayStation VR2 and Horizon: Call of the Mountain at the event.
Sony has been largely absent from in-person gaming industry conferences, including Gamescom last month.
Rival platform holders Nintendo and Xbox had a strong presence at the event. Nintendo hosted two booths: a stage and an area with playable games.
Sony has not attended Gamescom since 2019 and now relies on digital showcases such as State of Play.
The exhibition area of Gamescom was fully booked this year, with organisers citing a "demand of exhibitions higher than ever before."
