As we get closer to the October 23rd release date of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2, Infinity Ward has confirmed a major change to how its 2XP tokens work for the upcoming shooter. In a social media post, the studio has said that, starting in Modern Warfare 4, the tokens will only be consumed when a player is actually in a match.
Previously, the timer on 2XP tokens would start ticking down from the moment of activation, regardless of whether you were in a match or in the game’s menus. The timers on these tokens can also vary wildly, from 15 minutes all the way up to an hour. With this change, players will get more efficient use out of these tokens, since they won’t be consumed while you’re simply waiting for a match to start in the lobby.
Infinity Ward has been quite adamant about proving that it is taking player feedback into account for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Just this week, the studio also confirmed that players will be able to turn off character skins even in Warzone once Modern Warfare 4 comes out. When the toggle is enabled, players will only be able to see Operator skins acquired from Modern Warfare 4, with older games’ skins being disabled.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is slated to be a fresh start for the franchise’s multiplayer scene, and the shooter will also bring with it a brand-new game mode – Kill Block. The mode is set to take place in a “live-fire training facility built for elite operators”. It is largely defined by how things can change quite easily thanks to being made up of several modular parts, and Infinity Ward has said that these parts can come together to make up over 500 distinct map configurations.
The alpha build of Kill Block was showcased to players during Fanatics Fest back in August, with communications manager Guignard Isaac talking about how the development team has been hard at work to ensure that the game mode’s introduction goes smoothly.
“We’re excited that players get to finally test Kill Block. We’ve been at it for the last month or so just playtesting the build to make sure it’s steady and stable and ready for the event.”
As for other multiplayer modes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch with 12 core maps along with a host of returning game modes like Kill Confirmed, Team Deathmatch, and Search and Destroy.
Those interested in the single-player campaign can look forward to a new campaign that revolves around North Korea waging a massive new war, and the appearance of Captain Price, who is continuing his quest for revenge. The title will also include an antagonist played by Mads Mikkelsen, who gamers might recognize from Death Stranding, where he played Clifford Unger. Mikkelsen also showed up in Hitman World of Assassination as an Elusive Target – Le Chiffre – based on his character in Casino Royale.
