New data provided by Famitsu gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of August 2026.
Rhythm Heaven Groove kept up its pace last month, coming out on top once again. For new games, Nippon Ichi Software’s Village in the Shade did well with nearly 30,000 copies sold.
Below is the full list of Japan’s best-selling games of August 2026:
1. [NSW] Rhythm Heaven Groove – 271,337 / 945,929 2. [NS2] Splatoon Raiders – 163,578 / 638,262 3. [NSW] Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – 85,361 / 1,585,656 4. [PS5] Beast of Reincarnation – 53,207 / NEW 5. [NS2] Village in the Shade – 29,880
One game that just missed out on the top five is Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. It sold 27,604 units in total at retail.
Nintendo had another big month at retail with 744,000 games sold. Konami came in second at 161,000 units, followed by Happinet in third at 63,000 units.
Nintendo Switch 2 hardware sold 139,165 units in August, a slight tick up at nearly 137,000 units previously. That said, this likely comes down due extra tracking – August had five weeks of data compared to four for July.
