Applin has made its Pokémon Go debut, alongside its two original evolutions, Flapple and Appletun, and its other evolutions Dipplin and Hydrapple, added in a later event. With Applin, there’s a (kind of) new mechanic in the game that involves picking up items off the floor — something we saw vaguely tested during the April Fools’ 2025 event with Poké Balls.

Update (Sept. 29): We've added information about shiny Applin, which made its debut during the 2026 "Harvest Festival" event.
How to get Applin in Pokémon Go
You can find Applin the following ways:
Tapping on apple items on the floor that may rarely spawn (and more commonly around Mossy Lure Modules during specific events).
Tapping on Applin you may find spawning in the wild, as normal.
Complete event Collection Challenges and Timed Research (like the "Sweet Discoveries" research that was part of Applin's debut, or the "Harvest Festival" 2025 Collection Challenges that were a part of Dipplin's debut).
But as of this writing, that’s it. There have been no confirmations about Applin appearing in other situations, so you’ll definitely want to keep your eyes peeled for any stray apple items on the floor.

Notably, Applin’s evolutions, Flapple and Appletun, both have Gigantamax forms — though it’s not available in Pokémon Go just yet. Both evolutions look the same when Gigantamax, but they get slightly different moves, with Flapple getting G-Max Tartness and Appletun getting G-Max Sweetness. The moves are different in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but given that one of them heal status conditions and the other reduces evasiveness, we don’t know how they’ll implement these moves in Pokémon Go. All that being said, you may want to try to score as much Applin Candy as you can to prepare for the inevitable Gigantamax forms, if you like collecting them.
How to evolve Applin into Flapple, Appletun, or Dipplin in Pokémon Go
To evolve Applin into Flapple, Appletun, or Dipplin in Pokémon Go, you’ll need Applin Candy and their special apples. You can get these special apple items by — you guessed it — tapping on the apples you find on the floor or as event rewards.
To evolve Applin into Flapple, you'll need 20 Tart Apples and 200 Applin Candy.
To evolve Applin into Appletun, you'll need 20 Sweet Apples and 200 Applin Candy.
To evolve Applin into Dipplin, you'll need 20 Syrupy Apples and 200 Applin Candy.
To evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple, you'll need to set Dipplin as your buddy and catch seven dragon-type Pokémon, in addition to 400 Applin Candy.
Can Applin be shiny in Pokémon Go?
Yes! As part of the 2026 "Harvest Festival" event, Applin and its evolutions can be shiny. They all become a delicious green apple, while Dipplin and Hydrapple get a wonderful golden candy coating.
