$1000 smart glasses recalled as they’re found to overheat and burn users

A $1000 set of smart glasses have been recalled due to concerns that they can burn users, particularly on the left-hand side of the face.

When it comes to wearable tech, smart glasses have become all the rage. Plenty of companies have entered the market with their own versions, with some designs going down better than others.

In the case of INMO’s AIR3 Smart Glasses, close to 2000 pairs have been recalled in the United States and Canada over concerns that users can be burned by them during long periods of wearing the glasses.

The recall went out on September 24, with owners being told to “immediately stop” using the glasses.

“The left side of the smart glasses may overheat during extended use, posing a burn hazard,” the Canadian recall notice says, while the US-focused notice adds that “serious injury or death due to burn hazard” are concerns.

According to Health Canada, there have been no reports of incidents in Canada, but there have been 10 reports of overheating in the United States.

Additionally, the recalled glasses are the black variant with “AIR3” and “INMO” printed on a label on the inside right arm. These have been sold on Amazon and have been available for Kickstarter backers since 2025. They cost between $930 and $1300, depending on which version you have.

Close to 2000 pairs have been recalled across the US and Canada.

Futurism also noted that YouTuber reviewers had flagged the burning concerns in the past. “I’m not talking slightly warm. I’m talking hot. It gets to the point where it can actually hurt your ear. They even provide a sleeve in the box to cover the arm. That’s pretty crazy," YouTuber Non-Tech Tech Guy said back in February.

As noted, smart glasses have become pretty popular over the last year or so. However, this isn’t the first time that concerns have been raised. Though, the other concerns are typically over the privacy of both wearers and non-wearers – not health worries.

Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses have been warned that videos of them sleeping and going to the toilet have been reviewed by humans. Additionally, apps have been created to alert people to when the glasses are being used in their vicinity.

Other brands have come under fire as they’ve been linked to helping students cheat on their school exams.
