Marvel's Wolverine's launch has been and gone, which means it's now time for PlayStation to look ahead to its next big first-party releases. The studio has nothing lined up for the rest of 2026, but already has a pretty busy start to 2027 ready to go. PlayStation's year will begin with Until Dawn 2 on January 28, and after that will be God of War Laufey on February 16.
No offense to Until Dawn 2, but Laufey is the one we're here for, as pre-orders for the next big game in the series' Norse saga will be available starting today. They'll be available in certain parts of the world already since, as is typical of PlayStation, pre-orders begin at 10 am local time, wherever you might be.

Editions And Upgrades
No collector's edition for Laufey, so just the two versions of the game to choose from – the standard edition and the digital deluxe edition. The standard edition costs $69.99 and includes nothing but the game (plus a pre-order bonus if you buy it before release day, more on that in a second). Yes, since it's launching well before PlayStation says bye-bye to discs, there is a physical version that will include a disc.

Pre-order God of War Laufey for PS5 on the PlayStation Store starting from $69.99
The deluxe edition will not be getting a physical release and is and always will be exclusively available through the PlayStation Store. The more expensive version of Laufey costs $79.99. That extra $10 gets you a digital artbook, digital soundtrack, the Dark Alchemy equipment set, and an in-game resource pack. If you buy the standard edition and decide you want those extras at a later date, you can buy the digital deluxe upgrade for $10.
Pre-Order Bonuses
I often see people asking those who rush to pre-order games why they do it, especially for digital versions of which there are an infinite amount, so there's no risk of them selling out. Well, for the pre-order bonuses, of course. There are three of them available to those who place a pre-order for Laufey between now and February 15, 2026, the day before its release, with the headliner (for me at least) being the bling you can add to Phranque, the next God of War game's already popular cube companion who is played by Jack Quaid.
The Phranque pre-order bonus is the Golden Leaves appearance, which is effectively a skin for the sentient cube. That might mean there are more looks to unlock for Phranque throughout Laufey, we shall see. The pre-order bonuses also include the Last Wish armor set for Faye, and another in-game resource pack. That means you'll be getting two of them on release day if you pre-order the deluxe edition.
God of War Laufey will be a PS5 exclusive when it launches on February 16, 2026, and unless PlayStation drastically changes its business plan, it will never be available to play anywhere else. God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok were eventually ported to PC. PlayStation will no longer port its games to PC, which means if you played the first two on PC and want to continue the saga, you'll have to switch to PS5.
Laufey is one of many God of War projects fans of the series have to look forward to. We also know that the original God of War trilogy, the games that pull from Greek mythology instead of Norse, are being remade. The Norse games are also being adapted for television by Amazon. It might be a while before we see that show on Prime; however, since an injury to the show's original Kratos actor, Ryan Hurst, meant he had to be replaced. Dave Bautista has now been cast in the role, but the search for a new lead has naturally delayed filming by quite a bit.
