If you’re itching for details about MW4 DMZ, Infinity Ward is almost ready to talk about the return of Call of Duty’s extraction mode.
With the appetite for extraction shooters stronger than ever, I'm eager to see where Modern Warfare 4 DMZ fits into the genre. DMZ may have started as a relatively half-baked addition in 2022, but it showed plenty of promise and built a dedicated following. The mode returns next month, but we won't have to wait until launch to learn more about it. According to Infinity Ward Studio Head Mark Grigsby, more information is just around the corner.
Over on social media, Grigsby has been fielding questions from players about Modern Warfare 4's multiplayer offerings. When asked about DMZ, he says that "next week is all about DMZ. Big Week. Big Spill." That's the clearest indication we've had in months that Infinity Ward is preparing to lift the lid on its extraction mode, although exactly what it plans to reveal remains unclear.
It really has been a long wait. Back in June, we got an extended look at Modern Warfare 4's multiplayer suite during Call of Duty NEXT. As part of that showcase, Infinity Ward gave us around 40 minutes of DMZ details before going almost completely radio silent. Now, that silence is about to end with The Ward Room, a brand-new podcast the developer is launching in the build-up to the FPS game's release.
The "big spill" Grigsby refers to should headline the podcast's second episode, which presumably arrives around the same time next week. If that's the case, October 6, 2026 could be a date worth marking on your calendar. Until then, the first episode has already provided some interesting nuggets about what Infinity Ward has been working on.
For all you movement kings out there, Tac Sprint remains something the developer is experimenting with. After moving it to the Blood Rush perk, Infinity Ward says that "we found that it needs to compete with Ninja […] right now, they're competing perks." Players will eventually be able to combine the perks after launch through a new specialization. It'll never match the days of Ninja Pro in the OG Modern Warfare 2, though.
