McDonald’s is giving Canadian fans a chance to win a Quarter Pounder made with real gold as part of its latest Monopoly promotion.
The Golden Arches is taking its name pretty literally with this year’s Monopoly Golden Edition, which launched in Canada on September 29.
Alongside the usual free food and bigger prizes, the lineup includes a miniature Quarter Pounder collectible crafted from a quarter pound of 10kt gold. This is one burger you’ll want to keep well away from the ketchup.
The Canadian promotion arrives ahead of McDonald’s Monopoly returning in the US on October 6 with a $1 million top prize, although the two countries have different games and prize lineups.
How to win McDonald’s Gold Quarter Pounder
According to Access Winnipeg’s breakdown of the Canadian promotion, the gold burger has an average retail value of C$20,000 and is available through a Golden Prize Draw.
McDonald’s official promotion website confirms the collectible uses a quarter pound of 10kt gold and comes with an appraisal.
To access Bonus Play, players enter the 14-digit codes from their game stamps into the McDonald’s app. If a Bonus Play does not produce a potential Digital Play prize win, players can receive a Golden Prize Draw entry. There are 11 separate draws, scheduled for December 10.
That means the gold Quarter Pounder is a draw prize, rather than something players unlock by collecting a particular set of Monopoly properties.
Game pieces are available on specially marked packaging through November 2, or while supplies last. Players have until November 23 to enter their codes in the app.
The promotion is open to Canadian residents. To play for or claim prizes beyond instant food wins, participants must be MyMcDonald’s Rewards members aged 14 or older and use the app. A correct answer to a skill-testing question is also required.
Elsewhere, McDonald’s has been making changes beyond its prize menu. The chain recently revealed new PlayPlaces as part of $8.5 billion in restaurant upgrades and is testing ads on menu screens while customers wait for their food at select US locations.
