Geralt must help Crach an Craite's children, as they're both competing to become Skellige's new ruler. One of Crach's kids, Hjalmar, has banded with his companions to hunt the ice giant Myrhyff, and what better aid to have in killing a monster than a witcher? Below, we'll share a full walkthrough of The Lord of Undvik in The Witcher 3 so you can save everyone, make the best choices, and bring Hjalmar home.
How to Start The Lord of Undvik in The Witcher 3
The quest will ask you to speak with NPCs at The New Port, but you don't need to do this, as you earn nothing from it. Instead, take a boat from a port and sail to Marlin Coast, which we've tagged on the map image above. Once you're here, follow the objective marker, where you'll eventually enter a cutscene with the giant feeding the Sirens.
Head to the eastern side of the ship and climb up via the jump button, where you will be able to speak with Octo, a man who's not exactly the sanest of individuals. Octo will tell you where he last saw Hjalmar, which leads you to your next objective.
Octo will ask for nails, and if you give him some (there are some by the wooden boards north of the boat), then he will give you 200 XP.
Follow the objective, and you'll find Hjalmar's camp, which was attacked, and you can use your witcher senses to reveal two tracks to follow: footprints and a dragged boat. Since this objective diverges, we will start with the footprints.
Follow the Tracks of Those Who Fled at the Camp Before the Attack
To begin, you should follow the footsteps, which will take you to nekkers and eventually an Abandoned Village.
Keep following the trail north, and you will find a body; to the left of it, the Hornwall Horn, which can be used to force sirens to drop from the sky. After collecting the items, follow the footprints to find a cave with Ice Trolls, where you can continue tracking the blood trail to find trolls cooking the archer you're looking for.
You can play a game of riddles with the trolls to rescue the archer, or you can just kill them. However, the riddles are the safest path. The trolls will say: "Big he be, steps big he, big he bash." and the answer to the riddle is "A troll." If you get the riddle wrong, the next answer is "Rocks."
With Folan the archer now freed, you can speak with him, and he will join you. With Folan with you, it's time to rescue the remainder of Hjalmar's crew, so return to the camp and follow the dragged boat tracks.
While you can follow the boat tracks into a cave by Urskar, there is no point. You will find Hjalmar's crew, but they are all dead, and you will have to fight plenty of Harpies and Devourers. Instead, cross the lake and head to Clan Tordarroch's Forge.
Find Hjalmar
When you arrive at Clan Tordarroch's Forge, you can enter the building to find many corpses, but thankfully, none of them are Hjalmar. Instead of investigating the bodies, head outside and follow the human footprints, which lead to a path on the left. Eventually, you will find the Dorve Ruins, where Hjalmar is fighting Sirens, so defeat them and join his quest.
Should You Free Vigi the Loon? (& How to Beat the Giant)
You will soon reach the giant's lair, and inside, you'll find the giant sleeping. Vigi the Loon is in a cage, and while Hjalmar tells you to leave him, you should free him because he can join you in The Battle of Kaer Morhen later, but only if he survives.
To free Vigi, avoid walking on the snow and grab the key from the chest nearby. If the giant wakes because you were too loud, he will kill Vigi. Once Vigi is free, wait for the cutscene against the giant, as the boss fight will begin, and you will want Ogroid Oil and Quen to defeat it.
If you managed to keep Folan alive, you'll be rewarded with +50 XP.
Should You Take Glory For Killing the Ice Giant?
Yes, you should select "Thanks. So be it." This will give you a permanent 10% discount with all Skellige merchants. There is also no reason to reject the glory, as there is no consequence to Hjalmar sharing the credit with you. Regardless of your choice, the quest will end here, and you can either leave the island with Hjalmar or explore the island, but there's not much left to do.
