WoW: Forever's beta population cap is growing as Blizzard teases a huge new dungeon that could echo Classic's Blackrock Depths.
It's more than nostalgia when it comes to World of Warcraft: Forever. Blizzard has increased the MMORPG's population cap ahead of its November launch, while one of the game's senior designers has teased a huge new dungeon that could give WoW: Classic a run for its money.
The tease comes from senior game designer Josh Greenfield, responding to player questions about what content the game holds. Quoting one specific player, he says, "'a good BRD-like mega dungeon' – Hold our beer(s)." Naturally, pandemonium ensues, and WoW: Forever players are now searching through everything Blizzard has revealed about Forever's upcoming dungeons for clues.
The biggest candidate right now is Blackmaw Hold, a high-level dungeon Blizzard announced at BlizzCon 2026. The developer hasn't confirmed that Blackmaw Hold is the dungeon Greenfield was referring to, but its setting and place in Forever's endgame make it an obvious candidate. Earlier this month, Blizzard teased the location in a blog post as a "unsettling corruption stirring in the depths." However, it hasn't shown its bosses or revealed how large the MMORPG's dungeon will be.
Comparatively, Blackrock Depths is one of WoW Classic's largest and most maze-like dungeons. The former Dark Iron Dwarf capital sits deep inside Blackrock Mountain, with numerous bosses, branching paths, and enough content to keep a group busy for hours.
Adding a "BRD-like" dungeon therefore means more than simply adding a few extra bosses to one instance. Elsewhere, Wowhead suggests that Blackmaw Hold could potentially offer something similar, as it claims the dungeon is a feat for level 55 to 60 players. The developer has also increased the WoW: Forever beta's population cap again, confirming that the current playtest is continuing to attract more players than expected.
Holly Longdale, Blizzard's Executive Producer and Vice President for World of Warcraft, shared the update on social media, saying the team had to "increase the WoW: Forever Beta population cap again" as the "wild ride continues."
