Coinbase is bringing Pokemon pack ripping to its crypto platform, allowing collectors to open packs on their phones before keeping their pulls in a digital vault or having the physical cards shipped home.
The announcement arrives as collectors continue chasing Pokemon’s 30th Anniversary set, which has already sparked major demand, resale activity, and unusual card controversies.
Coinbase announced the feature on X with a short teaser: "Your binder is about to get a major upgrade. Rip packs on your phone. Every pull backed by a real, physical card. Vault it or ship it. Soon on Coinbase."

The original post does not mention Pokemon by name. However, when a user described the feature as “pokemon packs on the chain,” Coinbase replied, “you get it.” The company also described itself as “the Everything Exchange” in another reply.
Coinbase is moving into GameStop’s digital pack lane
The proposed feature sounds similar to GameStop’s Power Packs, which let collectors open digital packs and receive a corresponding physical card.
GameStop’s current system reveals PSA-graded cards that can be shipped to the buyer, stored in a PSA vault, or sold through the Power Packs platform. Coinbase has only mentioned vaulting and shipping so far, leaving out whether users will be able to sell cards back or trade them directly.
The biggest difference is Coinbase’s crypto infrastructure. The company has not explained which blockchain would be used, how ownership would be recorded, whether cards will be graded, or if users will receive a specific card from a pre-opened inventory.
Collectors still need answers on price and pull odds
Coinbase has not revealed a launch date, pack prices, supported countries, available Pokemon sets, pull rates, storage fees, or shipping costs. The company also has not identified a Pokemon partner or said whether The Pokemon Company is involved.
Those details will matter to collectors, especially with the 30th Celebration set arriving during one of the most competitive periods in the hobby. The expansion launched with more than 150 cards, 30 different Pikachu designs, and a new Futuristic Rare tier, giving Coinbase plenty of high-demand inventory to target.
For now, Coinbase’s announcement is a promise to make pack opening faster and easier. Whether it becomes a serious collecting platform will depend on the price, the odds, and how clearly the company shows what physical cards sit behind each digital pull.
